Thoughts on Your Invitation Wording
For your invitation wording, there are 3 sections to consider:
Names on invitation
Inviting line
Date, time, place, Reception
Example: (Part 1: Names on invitation) Mr. and Mrs. Victor and Julia Bride together with Mr. and Mrs. Ted and Josie Groom (Part 2: inviting line) request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their children BRIDE AND GROOM (Part 3: Date, time, place, Reception) on Saturday, the sixth day of November two thousand and twenty-one at one o'clock in the afternoon St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church 12 Denison Avenue, Toronto, Ontario Reception to follow at five o'clock Markland Wood Golf and Country Club 245 Markland Drive, Etobicoke, Ontario Decide first, if your wedding is more formal or casual. Keep in mind that in western cultures BRIDE GOES FIRST. Consider if you like the wording grammatically in the first person (we, us, our) or third person (they, them, their) The wedding style will influence the style of your wording:
Formal style:
- Include Mr. and Mrs. for the parents' names
- Inviting line is formal, particularly for church ceremonies
- Write out the date and times in full words
Example: Mr. and Mrs. Victor and Julia Bride together with Mr. and Mrs. Ted and Josie Groom request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their children BRIDE AND GROOM on Saturday, the sixth day of November two thousand and twenty-one At one o'clock in the afternoon
Casual style:
-
Can exclude Mr. and Mrs. titles for the parents' names--then the ladies are named first
-
Casual inviting line
-
Show the date and times in "alpha numeric" i.e. not written in full words
Example: Julia and Victor Bride along with Josie and Ted Groom request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their children BRIDE AND GROOM on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. You are ready to proceed to Names on Invitation.
