Inviting Line

How to "invite"

After you have identified yourselves and your families on the invitation (in the previous section of this workshop), the next part is the inviting line--the way you invite people to your celebration. This is the only part of the invitation that requires any creativity!

The classical, most formal line used for a religious ceremony only:

(Parents' Names)
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their children
BRIDE AND GROOM

Together with their parents (or families)
(Parents' names)
BRIDE AND GROOM
request the honour of your presence
at the celebration of their marriage

(Parents names)
request the honour of your presence
to witness the union of their families
as their children
BRIDE AND GROOM
unite as one in marriage

BRIDE AND GROOM
request the honour of your presence
to share in the celebration of
their love through marriage

Classical, most formal, for church ceremony of only faiths that confer the Sacrament of Marriage:

(Parents' names)
request the honour of your presence
as their children
BRIDE AND GROOM
receive the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

Formal style, for a civil ceremony or religious ceremony of any faith:

(Parents' names)
with joyful hearts invite you to witness
as their children
BRIDE AND GROOM
are united as one in marriage (or matrimony)

(Parents' names)
cordially invite you to witness and celebrate
the union of their children
BRIDE AND GROOM

BRIDE AND GROOM
together with their parents (or families)
(Parents' names optional)
invite you to share in their happiness
as they exchange marriage vows
and ask God's blessings

Casual Wording Styles

This one is perfect for mixed nationality or inter-faith couples:

(Parents' names) with joyful hearts invite you
to join them as their children
BRIDE AND GROOM
happily unite their hearts, their lives
and their cultures through marriage

Other casual wordings:

(Parents' names)
kindly request your presence
at the wedding celebration
of their children
BRIDE AND GROOM

BRIDE AND GROOM
Invite you to share in their joy
as they exchange marriage vows

at the marriage uniting their children
BRIDE AND GROOM

along with our parents
(Parents' names optional)

as we unite in marriage

(Parents' names)

More romantic, flowery wordings:

by your friendship and love, we
BRIDE AND GROOM
together with our parents
(Parents' names optional)
invite you to share the beginning of
our new life together
when we exchange marriage vows
to become one

BRIDE AND GROOM
invite you to join them as they
stand together before family and friends
to extend their friendship to include
the vows of marriage

Together with our parents, we
BRIDE AND GROOM
invite you to share in this celebration of love
as we extend the bonds of friendship
to include the vows of marriage

Suitable for couples NOT living together until after the wedding:
